Anger Management
Anger Problems
Being angry itself is not a problem. It’s how you deal with it!
People get angry. We all know this. However, for some, one’s own anger may be frightening. Perhaps your expressions of anger are so excessive you feel out of control, have relationship problems, career setbacks, legal or financial problems or engage in self-destructive behavior.
Anger becomes a problem when it hurts yourself or the people around you. Sometimes people will say things like “He has an anger management problem.” What they are really trying to say is that someone is lashing out and hurting others with his expression of anger.
The flipside of an anger management problem is not expression one’s anger. If something made you angry in the past and you didn’t express it at the time, then the anger can get “bottled up.” You may then find that when something happens to annoy or upset you in the future, you feel extremely angry and respond more aggressively than is appropriate to the new situation.
People sometimes suppress their anger to be nice, but this may lead to responding passive aggressively, be sarcastic or unhelpful, depression or anxiety, sleep problems, addictions, eating disorders, compulsive behavior, self-harm or physical ailments.
